THE Basingstoke Bison have added even more firepower to their line-up with the signing of Alex Sampford.

Last season, the 21-year-old played for Streatham and scored nine times in a points tally of 15 points for the London side.

He scored the game winner in Streatham’s 2-0 win in Basingstoke in October and also netted a brace in early December, when the Herd gained revenge for the home loss with a 7-4 victory.

The Basingstoke-born forward is certain to improve on last season’s figures as in 2015/16 playing for Wightlink he hit the net 19 times and collected 32 points.

Having been part of the Bison programme, Sampford moved to Slough, before returning to his home town side and icing for the Basingstoke Buffalo in 2013/14, where he scored seven times.

The following season he moved south to play for the Solent Devils and then signed for the Wightlink.

During his time on the island he made his Bison debut, while the Herd were in the English Premier League making 10 appearances Bison player/coach Ashley Tait said: “Having spoken to his former coaches they have been very positive about him. I meet him on Saturday and saw he skate well and has a good shot. He is a great addition to the team."
