HOOK and Newnham Basics’ Rhodes Franklin produced a great spell of bowling at Liphook, but it was all in vain.

The Southern League Division One game ended after 39 overs, when the rain came down, with the home side on 130-6 after being put into bat.

Rupert Armstrong (2-26) made early inroads into the Liphook innings, removing both Ryan Covey and Gabriel Broadhurst with only 15 scored.

The home side recovered thanks to Rob Nicklin (27) and Harry Munt (37).

This partnership was broken after adding 63, as Nicklin was trapped leg before by Franklin.

The Hook bowler went on to complete his 10 over spell, conceding a scrooge-like nine runs. He also took a further wicket in George Neave, after Richard Willcock (2-24) removed Munt and then caught and bowled Richard Williams for 22.

This weekend, Hook will hope to build on their opening day victory, when they entertain local rivals Hartley Wintney.
