Winning against London Raiders last weekend means we’re competing this weekend for the NIHL 1 South Play-off Championship. We’re certainly ending the season on a high.

The games have been variously described as “hard-hitting”, “boisterous” and “physical”. The guys stood up well in the early stages of both games and gradually took control. There was an accidental collision in the away fixture which resulted in Dan Scott receiving a match penalty. With another defender, Joe Baird, injured, it meant that I had to move young Hallam Wilson back into a four man defence on Sunday.

We play Peterborough this weekend away and at home to determine who takes the Play-Off trophy. The NIHL 1 North League has been running in parallel, and the top two teams in each League will also go forward to Coventry the following weekend to meet each other in what has been named the NIHL Final Four Grand Final.

So there’ll be celebrations again on Sunday if we manage to get our hands on another trophy.

It’s fitting that our last home game of the season should be against Peterborough. Last September we began the season by arranging two challenge fixtures against each other. Throughout the season our matches were very close and we took the League title on goal difference against them.

Both sets of supporters know they have a great weekend of hockey ahead of them.

Last week we heard that three of our players, Dan Scott, Tom Karpov and Aaron Connolly had been selected by their peers to the All-Stars team. Their individual talents have been recognised, but all three are great team-players. They would be the first to acknowledge how much they owe to their team-mates.

It’s time now for the Bison family to get together again one last time this season.
