SNOW provided an added challenge for many games last Saturday, but the weather could not stop Basingstoke Hockey Club Ladies getting back to winning ways.

Kirsty Kent opening the scoring with a penalty corner strike and Fiona Parker added a second from close range.

Clare Griffiths got the final goal with her trademark penalty corner conversion for a 3-0 win.

The seconds gave away two goals against Trojans in the opening 15 minutes.

They then hit back as Claire Bowman drew three defenders to slot home.

The equaliser came from Charlotte Barsby picking up a rebound and dinking over the keeper.

The second half was dominated by Basingstoke with Bowman taking her third hat-trick in as many games with a neat 1-2 with Sarah Mainprise followed by a slick reverse stick hit to secure the points with a 4-2 win.

The thirds had the best of the play against Gosport, and led 2-0 by half time thanks to a tap in from Katie Hossick, after a confident drive up the wing from Katie Smith, and Annabelle Johnson.

In the second half Tania Bridge deflected in a well worked penalty corner routine as they won 3-1.

New Forest hosted the Ladies 4s who battled hard but were 3 goals down by half time. With a change of formation bolstering the middle, Basingstoke struck back and Sue Pett deflected Sharon Holden’s penalty corner strike into the corner to take one back before the game was abandoned due to lack of visibility.

From the beginning the fifths were the superior team against New Forest leading 3-0 at half time, with goals coming from Toyah Jefferies, Caroline MacKay and a cracking goal from Karen Binney.

New Forest attempted to come back but Basingstoke stepped up their attacking game and were camped in the oppositions half, giving Jefferies free rein to take three more to win the game 6-0.

The opening 10 minutes of the Ladies 6s game against Winchester demonstrated the fantastic progress the team have made through the season, and via some great passing into the D, Claire Keeley was the first to find the net.

Winchester battered the Basingstoke goal, and though defender Miranda Smith and goalkeeper Katie Wade kept a number of penalty corners at bay, they found a way through and their equaliser. Basingstoke defended valiantly through the second half, with Rosanna Goddard making an aerial save off the line and Sophie Tamlin’s determination in midfield, but it wasn’t enough for Basingstoke to get it past the halfway line and Winchester took a second goal to win 2-1.
