HOOK and Odiham beat visiting Eastleigh thirds 18-0, as they proved to be tough opponents.

In what was very greasy conditions with both teams finding themselves at a stalemate with each other has both defences kept each other out for the entire first half.

It was not until Jack Dingley, Stag's fly half managed to slot a penalty make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half set off with great intensity form each team, still proving very difficult to penetrate each other’s try lines.

However, someone’s defence had to buckle and thankfully for Hook it was Eastleigh’s as a well worked line out, five yards from the try line led to a catch and drive.

It was local boy, Andy Sharp a regular player in the second row who was the lucky one to gather the points.

With a 8-0 lead it was time for full back Tom Hopkins, through some great interplay to make his way around the defence and score under the posts. This was successfully converted by Jack Dingley which gave the Stags a slightly more comfortable lead of 15-0.

One of the new rules that have been applied to the Solent Leagues means that if a team loses, but keeps the point difference with 15 points will receive a bonus point.

With this in mind and being ruthless, captain Tom Martin took the opportunity to move the score to 18-0, when we received a penalty just inside the opposition’s half. Jack Dingley once more slotted the necessary points .

Hook and Odiham’s next match is on Saturday at home against Romsey II’s.
