BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club's Ladies first team stormed back, after being stunned by a goal from visiting Epsom in the first five minutes to win 5-2.

Remembering the tough training drills of the week, Roxy O'Dea equalised with Basingstoke's first followed minutes later by Sharon Stones to go ahead. Fiona Parker took the score to 3-1 before half time. Epsom kept Basingstoke on their toes scoring first after the break, but a minute later Catriona Bausor restored Basingstoke's two goal cushion and Stones got her second as it finished 5-2 winners.

The seconds went 1-0 up after five minutes against Romsey, when Basingstoke’s Sarah Shearing dispossessed the Romsey right back and slipped the ball to Claire Bowman to round the keeper and slot home. Romsey equalised five minutes later, through a lucky deflected goal, and went 2-1 up by half time.

Romsey extended their lead midway through the second half, before Michelle Rounding was alert to convert a loose ball in the circle to pull a goal back, but Basingstoke could not find an equaliser.

An early start for the students at Southampton University was always unlikely to suit them and Basingstoke thirds took full advantage with an 8-2 win. Tania Bridge scored a hat-trick, and there were singles from Nicola Burridge, Annabel Johnson, Holly Dowds and two from new member Lexi Guetschow on her debut.

The fourth team took control against Petersfield from the off, with Sharon Holden scoring. Ulrike Maier set one up for Lyn Wood to definitively strike home and then took one herself to make it 3-0 up at half time. The second half saw Amy Sambell add her name to the scoresheet, and Maier exploded from midfield into the D to strike sweetly into the net. Basingstoke continued to press with Maier on the hunt for her hat-trick but it ended 5-0.

Basingstoke fifths felt the pressure as a strong Havant ran rings round them with quick passes and an attacking forward, going up 3 -0 by half time via set-pieces. Basingstoke came back fighting in the second half, Jasmine Jones pulling one back after breaking through Havant's defence. Basingstoke man-marked, not allowing Havant any room for manoeuvre and holding the score to 3-1.

Yateley broke quickly early on to take the first goal against the sixth team. Basingstoke faced and defended numerous short corners but with the strength, skill and precision of the Yateley forwards they were 3-0 up by half time. Despite creating some good chances, and Katie Wade showing some fantastic courage, Basingstoke could not respond to Yateley’s attacks, finishing with a 5-0 loss.

Basingstoke Men’s first team hosted Epsom but were overwhelmed losing 3-1 with Graham Garrett-Lang taking their only goal.

The seconds made a great escape against Salisbury as they came back from 2-0 down with 10 minutes to go to win 3-2.

Phil Stewart slapped one past the goalkeeper to claw one back, before Dan Holding equalised with two minutes remaining.

With 30 seconds on the clock, Rob Lloyd calmly slotted a third underneath the Salisbury goalkeeper for the winner as Basingstoke continue their reign at the top of the table.

The thirds started slowly, absorbing pressure from Aldershot and Farnham before a great breakaway goal finished smartly by Stefan Bonser. Basingstoke started the second half quickly, with Bonser scoring his second.

Andy Footman put away a penalty flick in the top left corner for number three and Kev Robinson sealed a 4-0 win, with a nice finish after a scramble on the Aldershot goal line.

Fleet and Ewshot hosted the fourth team and started strong with Chris Jenkins tapping in a Greg Smith pass.

Basingstoke soaked up pressure until half time holding the sheet clean.

Simon Dann then slammed the ball into the D which Chris Jenkins deflected for his second then secured his hat-trick with a reverse stick undercut. Pete Wood finished the scoring with a reverse stick flick past the keeper.

The fourths had a busy weekend taking on Havant in the Hampshire Cup. The game was evenly matched but Basingstoke’s Eliot Boyd took the first for Basingstoke. Jenkins followed suit, however Havant managed to level the game by half time. The second half saw both teams pressing hard and driving counter attacks with Basingstoke taking the earlier advantage with goals from Jacques Laurens and Jenkins, but a tiring Basingstoke could not hold on, the game finishing 4-4. An exciting set of penalty flicks resulted in Havant progressing 4-3 despite an excellent performance by Basingstoke's young goalkeeper Tomas Bonser.

In an all-Basingstoke affair, the fifths took on the Vikings, winning 4-1 with two goals from Jake Wilcox, and one apiece for Ryan Casson and Steve Wares. Mike Day scored for the Vikings.
