OLD Basing Bowling Club Ladies team are celebrating winning for the first time the summer Basingstoke Ladies league, writes MAURICE HOCKLEY.
The winning team posed for pictures by wearing their new jackets which have been sponsored by Lamb Brooks solicitors.
The league they won was the Tuesday League which is for all clubs in the Basingstoke area compete each week on a home and away basis with one rink of four players playing at home and another rink of four playing away each night.
The Old Basing club used about 12 players throughout the season, with their captain being Lin Osborn.
The Old Basing Ladies Section has benefited in recent times from the injection of a number of players new to the game of bowls who were keen to learn and who made great strides under the guidance of the club’s coaches.
Their achievements this year were not confined to winning the league, as they also made the semi final of The Gazette Cup and were gutted not to win it.
The ladies take a great pride in their progress this year, embracing the competitive edge and enjoying the friendships they make both within the club and with their opponents.
