BASINGSTOKE Hockey Men’s second team never looked back after Liam Harrison scored their opener as they beat visiting Salisbury 4-0.
The home side’s second came from Phil Stewart who kept his feet out of the way to slot the ball into the corner of the goal.
Basingstoke made it 3-0 with Phil Stewart converting an Alex Miller injection penalty corner past the keeper’s right pads.
Basingstoke kept the pressure on and a good passing play led to Dan Holding adding a fourth.
The first team travelled to Epsom and after the initial back foot start Basingstoke were finding gaps in the high Epsom press.
The game was end-to-end and the opener came from an Epsom penalty corner. Basingstoke were stung into life and Dean Record was able to scoop the ball round the keeper for 1-1.
The second half saw two Dan Bowden chances go wide, before Epsom scored from a penalty flick.
With time running out Basingstoke squandered a penalty flick, but Alex Hope managed to get on the end of a back post pass from Andy Preston, as it finished 2-2.
The third took on Aldershot and Farnham losing 2-1, Andy Footman scored for Basingstoke.
The Ladies also travelled to Epsom and started the game positively.
Epsom opened the scoring against the run of play, but the lead was short-lived as Captain Catriona Bausor took on the Epsom goalkeeper with a great strike to level the score.
Roxy O’Dea took the visitors clear with a powerful strike from a penalty corner. Basingstoke extended their lead with some cleverly worked interplay up the pitch for Catriona Bausor to pounce again.
Epsom kept working hard, and following a goalmouth scramble following a penalty corner allowed them to claw a goal back.
However, Basingstoke were not finished, Rachel Roberts taking her debut goal for the Ladies 1s at the far post to make the final score 4-2 to Basingstoke.
