BASINGSTOKE Town crushed Hampshire rivals Gosport Borough 8-0 on Monday afternoon, just two days after winning 5-0 at home to Chesham United.

The Dragons were quickly out of the blocks at Privett Park as former Gosport striker Ben Wright scored in the second minutes with a header from Michael Atkinson's cross.

The visitors added a second on 16 minutes as a mix-up in defence allowed Sam Smart to tap in.

The midfielder then was involved in goal number three, just five minutes before the break, as he was brought down in the area and Wright converted from the spot for a 3-0 half-time lead.

Just three minutes after re-start the Dragons added number four, as Smart cut his way through the home defence.

At this point, Gosport threw on all their subs, but the visitors continued to press and Aaron Jarvis hit the post.

The home side then a couple of chances, before two of Basingstoke's subs combined as Ashleigh Artwell's cross saw new signing Jack McKnight score.

It soon became 6-0 as Edward Sanders put through his own net, and then Town added a seventh from Dan Bayliss after 78 minutes.

In stoppage time, McKnight grabbed his second of the game and Basingstoke's eighth, as they moved up to 14th in the table.

The Dragons take a break from league action this weekend, as they host Hartley Wintney in the FA Cup first qualifying round.
