HAVING stayed up on the final day of last season, a year on Oakley II are celebrating promotion after their 11th win out of 11 in the Hampshire League Regional Two North East.

They could still go up as champions, if leaders St Mary’s fail to win their final game of the season this weekend, which is at Stratton Park against also promoted Hook and Newnham Basics IV and they win their final game.

Oakley made sure of a top two finish with an excellent 88-run win over visiting Compton and Chandlers Ford III.

Batting first they made 204-8 as Alex Brundle and Mike Askem led the way with 37 each supported by Steve Savage with 26. The visitors reached 70-1, before Brundle 3-21 and Kalum Sappumange 3-23 reduced them to 116 all out.

Hook and Newnham Basics IV also went up after a 46-run win at Herriard. Barry Goodman with 53 helped the visitors to 110-9 as Stuart Down took 3-32. The home side were shot out for 64 as Peter Hook took 5-6 from four overs and Alex Cates 3-7 from eight overs.

Basingstoke V (121-2) with Nick Firrell the top scorer with 37 not out beat AWE Tadley by eight wickets, after Cameron Saint scored 39 in their 120-6.

The only game in Division Three North East saw Ashford Hill II (113-6) with Andy Wisden top scoring with 25, lose to IBM Hursley by eight wickets.
