THE big event locally last weekend was the annual charity match fished over four lakes, Staceys Whitehouse, Old and New Barlows as one venue, Soke Road Lake and Adventures Willow Pool.

The clubs taking part were Adventure AS, Basingstoke Railway Piscatorials, Kennet Ospreys and Camrose AC.

The 63 anglers taking part raised an incredible £1,800 that will increase to over £2,000 when all the incidentals are added in and St Michaels Hospice is the worthy beneficiary.

Adventure’s Willow Pool saw Bartosz Recki top out with 75lb of mixed on pole and maggot.

Mike Allen employed worm and caster on the pole for his 45lb 8oz of mixed, Dave Stratford-Way caught 43lb 8oz of carp on pole and meat for third spot.

Soke Road Lake played host to Camrose/Ospreys and Colin Thomas did the necessary with 50lb 6oz of carp on the feeder.

Steve Lewis caught 42lb 8oz on pole and meat, Tony Holdsworth’s 35lb 5oz was third.

Old and New Barlows Lake saw Stacy Match Group and Tadley Angling customers fishing, Kevin Roberts won New Barlows Lake with 30lb 8oz of mixed on caster (what else). Steve Davis potted pellet for his 12lb 4oz, on Old Barlows, Kevin Roberts and Gary Clutterbuck won the pairs.

Whitehouse Lake was a mix of Railway Club and Osprey anglers, Simon (the god) Kiefer did the business with 63lb 8oz of mixed on pole and pellet. Trevor Matthews’ 43lb was a pole and maggot carp bag. Ian Jones put 32lb 12oz of mixed together for third.

Paul Follington and Dan Butler ensured all and sundry bought raffle tickets, Lyn Matthews and Andy Wicks were the barbecue officials whilst Stacey supremo Keith Brown co-ordinated the whole event with his usual coolness, thanks to all who took part especially the anglers who raised over £30 per man.

Catch me next week.
