HARTLEY Wintney Golf Club’s scratch competition to find its 2017 Club Champion, saw the early pace on the first day was set by Mark Chandler who shot a 72.

This gave him a three shot lead over 2016 Champion Callaway and Ed Little who both had 75’s.

One shot further back was Tom Winder and Dave Bartlett both on 76, and far from out of it on 77 were Ben Cornwell, Jamie Hobdell and Lee Hall.

The following day, saw overnight leader, Chandler fell away shooting 81 for a total of 153, Callaway was unable mount a challenge and shot 78 also for a total of 153.

It was Cornwell and Bartlett who were mounting their challenge with Cornwell seeming to be the likely winner, but three bogeys in the last four holes would be his undoing.

Quietly going along doing his business was Bartlett, who like Cornwell shot 74, this would be enough to give him a winning total of 150, one better than Cornwell who finished on 151.
