HARTLEY Wintney won a one wicket thriller at home to Southern League Division Two leaders Totton and Eling, to move themselves up to second in the table.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and made a good start thanks to Sam Bracey (28) and Daniel Clouting (38) who put on 67 for the first wicket, before Bracey was trapped leg before by Jamie Teale (3-54).

Clouting and Mark Mbofana (55) continue to pile on the runs taking the score to 111-2.

Clouting was then bowled by Henry Collier(2-26) and Ollie Perrin departed 13 runs later, as Batcup snapped up a wicket.

This saw Kieran Geyle (25) join Mbofana, and they put on 48 for the fourth wicket, before Mark Teale (2-17) removed Geyle.

From here the home side got amongst the visiting batsmen. Jamie Teale had top scorer Mbofana caught by Scott Baldwin to end his 63-ball knock which included three fours and three sixes.

Next ball, Teale bowled Wayne Lockey and then Blake Darney was run out by Henry Collier as the visitors went from 172-3 to 189-7.

Kumodak Sharma (13) helped Totton past 200, as they were all out for 211.

Hartley’s reply did not get off to the best of starts, as they soon found themselves 47-4, as only opener Will Kerr (15) made it into double figures of the top four batsmen.

Scott Baldwin (13) and Jamie Teale (47) got the home side back on track as they added 77 for the fifth wicket, before Baldwin departed.

Teale and top scorer Will Ross (50) added even more valuable runs, but at 172-7 they still looked a long way from victory.

It was left to captain on the day, Rhys Batcup batting at number eight to guide them home.

Along with James Beckwith and then Dan Reynaldo they pushed Hartley closer to their target.

However, as wickets fell the tension grew and in the end, it was left to final pair Rhys Batcup and Mark Teale to complete a memorable victory.

Batcup finished unbeaten on 35 from 63 balls having hit two sixes and two fours Hartley are on their travels next weekend to Langley Manor.
