With just one weekend of hockey to look forward to before Christmas, I hope that our back to back games against local rivals Bracknell will get us all in a festive mood.
That wasn’t how we felt on Saturday evening after losing once again to Guildford. We controlled a lot of the game and I can’t fault the effort that the guys put in. But we’re not finding ways to win games.
I actually feel we’re playing better hockey now than when we went on a long winning run earlier in the season but we are struggling to score goals. Joe Miller will certainly help us in that department. We know he’s a proven goal scorer.
One part of our game that was better then was our power play. A good powerplay can win you games alone. It’s easy to drop your intensity when you have a man advantage on the ice. We need to keep our intensity and bring as much urgency to our power play as when we’re playing five on five.
I was pleased with what the new players brought to the ice. Joe Rand will miss a few games over the holiday period but will then be joining us for the rest of the season. Despite feeling unwell, he gave a whole-hearted performance. It’s great to know that a character like that will be pulling on a Bison jersey full time.
Dan Scott brings a lot of energy and physical play on the back end, which rounds out a very solid D core.
This Saturday will see our annual Teddy Bear Toss, in support of local charities. Please remember to wrap the bear up warmly.
