AFTER four straight wins Hartley Wintney are now firmly on the tails of the teams above them in the Southern League Division Two.

Saturday they face a trip to third placed Calmore Sports and then entertain fourth team Hambledon before a trip to leaders Trojans.

Skipper Danny Plume is fully aware that the next three weeks will go a long way to shaping his side’s season, but the mood in the camp is really good at the moment.

Chris Saville returns to the squad for Calmore trip, but Scott Baldwin is still missing as he getting married.

Plume said: “We have some big games coming up, but we are enjoying our cricket. We certainly think we can get into the promotion shake-up.”

Last weekend, Hartley won a high scoring thriller against visiting South Wilts II by three runs.

The home side batted first and scored 286-7, with the visitor’s reaching 283-9 in reply after their 50 overs.

Hartley captain Plume led by example with the bat with a superb 127, which saw him hit 11 fours and two sixes.

This was after openers Matthew Kerr (35) and Tom Garwood (27) gave them a solid start.

Patrick Joseph (42) also had another good day with the bat, as the village side posted a match winning score in the end.

The visitors made a good start with a century stand for the first wicket and were ahead of the run rate.

Garwood (5-39) then turned up the pressure on the batters and Plume (2-45) joined in as the visitors just short.

Despite scoring a century Plume heaped praise on Garwood and said: “He bowled overs 44, 46, 48 and 50 and took vital wickets and kept the rate down. It was great for me as captain to see even when they were above the run rate and looking likely to win we never gave-up and in the end if paid off.”
