HOOK and Newnham Basics II moved to the top of the Hampshire League County Division One, after a thrilling one wicket win over visiting Andover II.

Andover (238) defended their total really very well, but thanks to contributions all the way down the batting order Hook won with two balls to spare.

Captain Kevin Light batting at number eight due to calf strain sustained whilst fielding, came in when Ben Allnutt (50) was unfortunately run out when the game was under control.

Needing 78 to win, Light (29) build partnerships with Andrew Darmody (39) and Liam Doran (17), before he was dismissed by a spectacular one handed diving catch on the boundary in front of the sight screen preventing a six.

Still needing 18, Hook reached their winning total of 239-9 thanks to final pair Kish Parmar and Glen Williams.

Earlier, when Andover batted Parmar took 3-61.

In County Division Two, Ben Firrell's 5-47 was in vain as Basingstoke and North Hants III were bowled out for 143, as they lost at Hythe and Dibden (206-9).

Old Basing were dismissed for 101 chasing Longparish's 239-8.

Hobos have pulled out of the division due to lack of players, but hope to return next season.

Hartley Wintney II were bowled out for 194, as they lost narrowly by eight runs, at Bishop's Waltham II in County Division Three.

Overton (130) also fell short in their run chase against visiting Steep's 221-7. Hook III had no game this week.

Ramsdell and Alton II tied their game in County Division Four.

Ramsdell scored 240-7 after a century opening stand between Dave Simpson (69) and Tom de Boinville (67). Alton (240-7) were left needing a four off the last ball, which they got to tie the game as Ramsdell's Andy McCarthy took 3-40.

Odiham and Greywell (203-5) went top of the division, thanks to a five wicket win over Oakley (202-7) as Gerry Dique scored 120 not out for the losers.

Basingstoke IV (148-1) cruised to a home win over Ashford Hill (147).

Whitchurch moved up to second after James Bevan scored 74 in Whitchurch's 217-7 at Wherwell, who were shot out for 92.

Mike Burt took four catches, but AWE Tadley (105) lost to Sparsholt (213-7).
