BASINGSTOKE Ice Skating Club will be back on the ice this week in their new regular time slot of 5.15pm to 6.30pm on Friday evenings.

The club, based at Planet Ice Basingstoke, host events which range from regular training sessions for figure skaters to club competitions and National Open competitions.

They have historically met on a Sunday morning for more than 25 years, however a new timetable at Planet Ice has meant they have been without ice since the end of January.

Membership payments were suspended and new membership applications frozen, but they are pleased to announce that the club will be open to new members again from Friday and are inviting new applications.

In recent months the club has hosted a number of off ice training events for members free of charge to keep the skaters working together as a unit in what can often be a solitary sport, they plan to continue with these in the form of regular monthly sessions in ballet and fitness in addition to the Friday’s club sessions.

Three representatives from the club Eliza Hubberstey, Caitlin Williams and Chloe O’Donnell were at Wilton Shopping centre this week, presenting a cheque for £750 to the Salisbury Hospice Charity for funds raised from gala performances by the BISC Show Team at the Christmas Ice Rink in the village in December and January.

Anyone wishing to join Basingstoke Ice Skating Club should own their own figure skates and have some basic skating skills.
