HOOK won the first of four trophies they are chasing this season with a 2-0 success over Tron FC in the North Hants May Cup at Longmeadow last Wednesday.

Once again, as they did against Herriard in the Basingstoke B Cup Final, Tron fell behind in only the fourth minute.

Charlie Page made ground down the right and played a nice ball through for Peter Silvester who beat goalkeeper Kevin Beaumont with a shot that went in off the far post.

Page was then shown a yellow card in the 11th minute for a reckless tackle and could have seen red later in the game.

With Connor Dawber looking good in midfield Tron had the better opportunities, as Jon Nicholls headed a good chance wide and only a decent save from Greg Archer stopped him scoring one-on-one.

Then just before half time Richard Kalwarczyk looked to have equalised with a header, but Jon Noakes headed it off the line.

Early in the second half, Tron went close through Kalwarczyk and Zac Reynolds, but Hook began to take control from the hour mark, when Tron appeared to run out of steam.

Dan Mellors came on as sub and made all the difference, a fine shot some 25-yarder from Andy Parker hit the bar with Beaumont beaten and Dave White drilled a cross from the impressive James Westwood wide.

The match was settled five minutes from time, as Parker was brought down in the box by Barney Powell and Tom Davies made no mistake with the spot kick.

The Cup and awards were presented by Alan Blackman the North Hants FA Hon Secretary.

Hook go for trophy number two on Saturday (6.30pm), when they meet Basingstoke Athletic in the final of the Basingstoke A Cup at the Winklebury Football Complex.

Hook being cup holders and the Division One leaders they start as strong favourites to retain the trophy.
