THE Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards again proved to be a great evening as 21 awards were given out to people from right across the local sporting world.

The annual evening was a glittering affair and once again hosted by the Apollo Hotel and was organised by the Basingstoke Sports Council.

Another great year for Basingstoke Gymnastic Club saw them take back the crown of the Club of Year, they previous won in 2013.

The club continued to grow in 2015, their disability group increasing and over 2,000 participants coming through their doors every week.

Karen Rawson, of the Basingstoke Gymnastic Club Karen Rawson said: "It is nice to win this award again and it is for all the hard that everyone puts into the club. We are a very successful in the community of Basingstoke and continue to grow each year."

Lindsey Andrews retained her Senior Ladies title after another excellent year for the Shin Gi Tai Martial Arts Academy co-owner and karate expect as she continued to be ranked number one in the world at veteran’s kata.

Andrews said: “I am very pleased to win this award again as the category is very strong.”

Great Britain ice hockey player Leanne Ganney was second and karate’s Jessica Muller third.

Senior Men’s winner Kevin McAuslan-Crine was a member of the England team which won gold in the European Championship and said: “I am incredibly proud to have won this award as I spend a lot of coaching now, but even if I am 40-year-old I like to compete and did very well last year. I hope this inspires my student to what they can achieve.”

Martial Arts dominated the top three as Bryan Andrews of Shin Gi Tai finished second and kickboxer Ron Peploe was third.

Bradley Sutton collected the Junior Men’s award for the second year running after winning a number of events in 2015 including the Biathe World Tour and the National Pentathlon.

He missed the event as he was taking part in a youth international in Solihull and said: “I’m thrilled to win Junior Sportsman two years in a row."

The top three in the category was completed by top athlete Owen Richardson who was second with karate’s Harry Cronk third.

The British Senior Ladies Figure Skating champion Danielle Harrison won the Junior Ladies trophy.

However, the 16-year-old was unable to pick up her trophy in person as she was competing in Hungary.

Talking from there Harrison said: “I was disappointed to miss the Sports Awards. I got a call during the evening and was thrilled to hear I had been selected as a winner."

In Hungary, the skater scored 134.42 the highest score by a Great Britain lady this season.

Second place went to tumbling gymnast Kaitlin Lafferty and third was karate’s Toni Shering.
