AFC ALDERMASTON booked their place in the semi-final of the Berkshire Senior Cup with a thrilling 3-2 extra time win at Mortimer.

The visitors had the first chances in the game as Kai Parton-Edey volley was punched away and a Lee Wheeler strike from 30 yards saw the goalkeeper at full stretch put the ball over the bar.

The home side took the lead after 25 minutes against the run of play and with their first attempt on goal.

Aldermaston equalised after 42 minutes, as Wheeler's free-kick into the box found an unmarked Michael Porter to head home.

The visitors took the lead in the contest on the hour mark, from the penalty spot, after another Wheeler free-kick saw Liam Tackley have his shirt pulled in the box.Wheeler converted the penalty for a 2-1 lead.

Aldermaston thought they had extended their lead, as well worked move saw Matty Wilkins square the ball into the path of Parton-Edey, but it was ruled out by a very poor offside decision.

Mortimer did not look likely to score, but they did with a shot from the edge of the area with 10 minutes left.

The game went to extra time and AFC scored the winner after 121 minutes. A great move started with Ryan Alexander playing in Wilkins, who unselfishly squared the ball to the on rushing Parton-Edey who slotted into an empty net.

In the second period of extra time Aldermaston thought they had extended the lead further as Wilkins squared the ball to Parton-Edey who scored, only for the linesman to put up the flag once the goal went in.

AFC ended the game with 10 men as Matty Wilkins sent off for a second yellow card after an off the ball incident, but still secured their place in the last four.

A special mention should go to Jake Thain, who came on for Richard Jones after 25 minutes at left back, an unfamiliar position for him.

Thain a new addition from Baughurst AFC and plays for Aldermaston's Sunday under-18s and did excellent in what was his second appearance for the first team.
