IT WAS a good day for the Basingstoke and District League on Saturday, with six out of 10 sides progressing to the second round of the North Hants May Cup by beating Andover League opposition.

Joe Hill bagged a first-half brace to give TwentyTen a two-goal lead at the halfway point of their trip to Andover's SparTen, but the hosts levelled before the hour. Carl Pearson restored the lead and the same player added a late fourth from the penalty spot after SparTen had been reduced to 10 men.

Joe Cook hit a hat-trick as Basingstoke United won 4-3 against visiting Over Wallop.

Cook opened the scoring after 15 minutes but the Andover side scored either side of the break to go ahead.

Cook levelled with 55 minutes on the clock before turning provider to set up Tom Hartley, while his third goal made it 4-2. Wallop reduced the deficit, but United held on to win.

Basingstoke Labour Club romped to a 6-1 victory over Broughton Reserves, taking a first-minute lead thanks to an own-goal and leading 4-0 at the break with Marik Wisnliewski scoring twice either side of a Cameron George strike.

Broughton scored first in the second half, but further goals from George and Paul Gadson completed the rout.

Bounty United needed a penalty shoot-out to see off Andover Lions Reserves following a 4-4 draw.

Goals from Jordon Willis and Mitchell Stokes had the hosts two goals ahead and while Lions pulled one back, Mike Gilham's strike made it 3-1 at half-time.

The Andover team scored twice to pull level with 10 minutes to go, and while Derbot got his second, the visitors equalised in the final minute.

However, goalkeeper Symon Duszynski was the Bounty hero, saving three kicks in the shoot-out as the hosts won 3-1 on penalties.

Highly-fancied Basingstoke Athletic went down to a 4-2 defeat away at Sutton Scotney. The visitors conceded two goals in the opening 10 minutes, and while goals either side of half-time from Matt Button and Ryan Evans saw Athletic level, they shipped two more in the second half to go out.

Basingstoke Athletic Reserves did go through though, beating CK Andover 2-1. CK took a first-half lead, but goals from Roman Vanik and Matt Stillwell saw Athletic through.

TDI were beaten 3-1 away at Andover League leaders Kingsclere. They trailed by one goal at the break and while James Brown converted a penalty to level, Kingsclere scored twice more to go through.

Hampshire Irons also lost, going down 4-0 at Kings Somborne, while Hook Reserves conceded their game against South Wonston Swifts. AFC Aldermaston A are through as Andover New Street Swifts Reserves withdrew.
