FIVE Basingstoke Bluefins swimmers did extremely well at the annual British Learning Disability Championships held at the Welsh National Pool in Swansea.
The quintet of Scott Howe, Jamie Joyce, Ciarán Kelly, Cameron Lloydd and Joe Pavey recorded 17 personal bests in 17 races as well.
It was an inspiring meet, with Paralympic star Jessica-Jane Applegate and Commonwealth Games medallist Jack Thomas taking part.
Joyce carried on showing his great improvement as he recorded personal best times in all the events he swam, shaving 10 seconds off his best time for the 25-metre freestyle.
Pavey smashed his 25-metre freestyle time and he gained personal bests in all events.
Lloydd got off to a flying start and finished his 50-metre freestyle, while Howe’s hard work during training paid off handsomely as he smashed his best times for every race he took part in.
Kelly had a good day with new best times in every swim and his improved technique knocked an incredible 58 seconds off his 800-metre freestyle.
He finished the weekend by swimming the anchor leg for an unattached relay team and picked up two medals with them.
Kelly won a bronze medal in the 50-metre medley and a silver in the 50-metre freestyle.
The Bluefins have now returned to full training after their short summer break and their first competition will be the annual Club Championships, which run from Saturday, September 26 through to Saturday, October 17.
The club run a full swimming programme from lessons to performance.
