A TRIO of north Hampshire athletes were in medal-winning form while on English Schools duty at a meeting in Scotland.

Basingstoke and Mid Hants pair James Beeks and Mair Edwards, as well as The Clere School pupil Holly Mills, represented England Schools in an international against Scotland, Wales and Ireland at Grangemouth.

Mills claimed a win for England, leaping 6.26m to finish first in the long jump, while Edwards and Beeks both claimed second-place finishes.

Edwards clocked 24.52sec to finish as runner-up in the 200m, while Beeks clocked 4min 28.58sec to come second in the 1,500m.

Another Basingstoke and Mid Hants athlete, Ben Hazell, finished fourth at the South of England Combined Events Championships, in Bedford.

Hazell amassed 6,795 to finish just short of the podium, while Dan Spencer finished 22nd with a personal best score of 3,735. Spencer also achieved lifetime bests in the 400m, high jump and pole vault.

Five more Basingstoke athletes represented Hampshire at a Southern Counties Under-17 Inter-County Match.

Maddie Deadman won the 1,500m in a season's best time of 4min 47.15sec, while Owen Richardson also won with a season's performance, clocking 49.10sec for the 400m.

Malachi Gair was second in the high jump, clearing 1.80m, while Caius Joseph claimed two fourth places, recording a personal best of 22.33sec in the 200m and leaping 6.44m in the long jump.

Amelia Cook finished eighth in the 80m hurdles in a time of 13.85sec and won the B shot with a throw of 12.41m.
