GOALKEEPER Stuart Moore was delighted to be named Basingstoke Town Player of the Season ahead of the club’s final home league game at the weekend.

The 20-year-old who has spent the season at The Soccer AM Stadium on loan from Reading, won a supporters’ vote to claim the award after a string of impressive displays.

“I am very pleased to have won this award,” Moore said. “The fans have been brilliant and to get this award from them makes it all worthwhile.

“It was a bit of a surprise to win. I came here to play a full season and help the club out, so to win this award is a bonus.

“I have enjoyed my time here and appreciate what everyone has done for me. Playing football every week gives me something to work towards in training and they are a great bunch of lads.”

Moore has been a key member of the squad, pulling off some fantastic saves to help the club qualify for the promotion play-offs, which get under way next week.

“I can’t wait for the play-offs,” he added. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone. We have done really well this season and to go up would be an incredible achievement for everyone involved.”

The Isle of Wight native is unlikely to return to Basingstoke next season and has his sights set on moving up a few divisions.

“I have just got to go back to Reading and work hard,” he said. “If it doesn’t happen for me there next season, I’d like to get some Football League experience on loan.”
