LESS than a week after playing for England, Tadley rugby stars Abbie Parsons and Devon Holt tasted victory in a big match at Twickenham.
The pair, who played in England Under-20s’ narrow defeat to France two weeks ago, were members of the University of Gloucestershire team that beat Cardiff Metropolitan University 28-12 to win the national university championship.
Parsons, who captained England against France, started at prop, while Holt, who scored her country’s try in the 10-5 defeat to France, played at outside centre.
Their team took the lead after just five minutes, Holt passing for full-back Sarah Nicholas to scythe her way through the Cardiff defence and touch down for a converted try.
Winger Millie Wood collected a crossfield kick to extend the lead to 14-0 after just 12 minutes, but Cardiff got back into the game, scoring from a maul with 20 minutes on the clock.
Wood then intercepted a loose pass to score her second try of the game, but Cardiff responded before half-time – Parsons getting her hands on the try-scorer but being unable to prevent the player going over to make it 21-12 at the break.
There was just one score in the second half, second row Courtney Gill diving over from a ruck to make the final score 28-12 in favour of the University of Gloucestershire.
