BASINGSTOKE Bison suffered a 6-5 overtime defeat at the hands of the Sheffield Steeldogs in Yorkshire on Sunday night.
The home side scored first at 11:16, thanks to Janis Ozolins shorthanded marker and the same player hit the post soon after.
Doug Sheppard opened the Herd’s account four minutes later, as he spun in the slot to score.
Sheffield man-of-the-match Andrew Hirst made sure his side had the lead at the first break, as he netted from the blue line at 16:27.
Bison man-of-the-match Sheppard levelled things at 21:05, only for Sheffield’s Lubomir Korhon to score 29 seconds later.
Fellow Sheffield import Ozolins added a fourth, before the Bison’s Ryan Watt hammered a shot off the crossbar.
The final session saw the Herd storm back to take a 5-4 lead with eight minutes left, thanks to goals from Ciaran Long, Aaron Connolly and Tomas Karpov.
The visitors then hit penalty trouble in the final five minutes and after killing a Stuart Mogg penalty.
The Steeldogs netted their equaliser from Hirst, as Miroslav Vantroba sat in the sin bin at 58:23.
This forced the game into overtime, where Korhon scored the winner at 62:26, after good work down the wing by Lee Haywood.
The Bison will hope to bounce back to winning ways, when they host local rivals Bracknell Bees on Saturday night (face-off 6.30pm).
