BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Ladies made it six wins on the trot and went three points clear at the top of the table after they beat nearest rivals Eastbourne 3-0.
Captain Catriona Bausor opened the scoring and with the home side getting a grip in midfield and their strikers outpacing the Eastbourne defence, Fi Parker smashed back her own rebound for 2-0 lead at half-time.
The home side saw a disputed Eastbourne penalty flick come back off the post and then player/coach Lisa Scarborough fired home a penalty-corner.
The ladies have this weekend off, before they travel to mid-table Southampton on November 8.
In the men’s section, Basing-stoke travelled to Havant know-ing the home side would be one of the league’s toughest opponents.
Havant started strongly and led 3-0 in the first 10 minutes.
Basingstoke replied when Grant Rouse fired a ball across goal and despite a touch from the Havant goalkeeper, Ben Jubin was able to tap in at the back post.
The second half started well for Basingstoke and Jed Mills saw a reverse stick shot fly past the far post and while short corners were earned, they were not converted.
Man-of-the-match Dean Record drove into the D and scored, but Havant hit back with two quick goals.
Basingstoke were awarded a corner in the last minute, but the home goalkeeper was able to tip the ball round the post.
The seconds lost 4-2 at home to Chichester and despite some promising play, the home side conceded three goals in the first half, before Sam Wildsmith finished off a strong move to score.
In the second half, Basingstoke altered their formation and were rewarded with a good periods of possession. Chichester netted a fourth goal, before the hosts added a second after Clinton Douglas smashed the ball under the opposing goalkeeper.
