LASHAM pilot Phil Jones was part of the World Championship-winning Great Britain team in Leszno, Poland.

Jones finished 12th in the 15m class but he had hoped to add to the gold that he won in 2006 and the bronze that he won in 2003.

Flying his Ventus 2 glider, Jones took part in 10 races totalling nearly 2,800km over the two weeks of competition.

He was flying alongside team mate Leigh Wells, another former British world champion, who finished just ahead of him in 11th spot. These strong performances helped the British team to win the World Team Cup for the 15m, 18m and Open Classes with 8,690 points, some 170 points ahead of Germany in second place.

This completed a double for the British team after they won the World Team Cup for the other three world championship classes last month.

This featured Jones’ two brothers, Steve and Howard, who won the individual gold medal in the 20m two-seater class.

In addition, another pair of Lasham brothers, Jez and Richard Hood, finished third and fourth respectively in the Standard Class.
