WE ARE still unbeaten at the end of September and we’ve played Peterborough twice, Manchester once and then, last weekend, Telford. No wonder fans and players left the rink on Saturday evening on a high.
We’ve seen so many challenges this month – but our team has battled through them all.
We had the physicality of the opening game, the high-speed intensity of our game against Manchester and a hard-hitting, highly-skilled game that went to penalties against a Telford team loaded with players who have impressive resumes.
But for impressive performances, you don’t need to look further than the Bison team.
Is there another import with the speed to get to the puck, the strength to battle for it and the skill to carry it to the net surrounded by opposing players and score, as Tomas Karpov did for our opening goal?
Look out for it on Bison TV. Then get ready to enjoy the penalty goal that decided the game.
Will you see a better penalty goal this season than the one Ciaran Long scored? He showed so much patience, waiting for the slightest of gaps through which to slide the puck.
Telford have a very strong powerplay unit, but we reduced our penalty count this week and our penalty-kill unit, back-stopped by Dean Skinns, was more than a match for them.
Our fans have learned that we will play with guts and grit. I hope they’re also beginning to appreciate the high level of skill being shown all over the ice. Joe Greener, for example, has been the equal of any other Brit in the league this month.
We want to keep this momentum on Saturday when we entertain Guildford. If September is anything to go by, there’s only one place to be on Saturday evening.
See you there,
Doug
