READING have completed the signing of teenage American striker Andrija Novakovich.
The 18-year-old had a trial with the Royals last season and will go into the club’s academy for the 2014-15 campaign after signing from Milwaukee University.
Novakovich’s parents are both of Serbian origin, but his mother grew up near Reading. His grandfather played football for Bicester Town and Oxford City, and the 6ft 3in forward still has family in the area, something he says played a role in his decision to join the club.
“It was a really big decision, a tough decision, but I actually have family near Reading and that really helped me out,” the USA under-20 international said.
“My family and I talked about it quite a bit. It was an offer that I couldn’t really refuse. I am just following my dreams and doing what I love.
“I really liked the staff at Reading. Once I got there, I enjoyed the training sessions. It was just a really, really great atmosphere for me. It felt right. I liked it from the beginning.”
