The home side then netted their second goal to make it 3-2 at the first buzzer.
The young herd dominated after the break and scored twice in a minute through Kody Sewell and Birch.
Emily Harris made it 6-2, before Penny completed the scoring as Oliver Waites picked up his second assist of the game.
The under-16 Bison lost 6-0 to the visiting Swindon-based Okanagan team.
Jordan Lawday saved an early chance but the visitors went ahead.
Good defending by George Gill stopped another goal, before Okanagan made it 2-0.
The Bison again showed their defensive ability with some great work by Sam Compton and Josh Richards to keep the visiting forwards out.
But the Swindon side made it 3-0 before the Herd’s Jason Cheesbrough found Wilson, who fired wide.
Man-of-the-match Lawday was called on to make numerous fast paced saves, but, by the end of the second period, the Bison trailed 5-0.
The final session saw Max Florey and Steven Ratcliff force saves from the visiting goalie.
At 37.59 the Bison changed their netminders as Jed Sherrington took over – and he made a superb late save after the visitors had scored their sixth goal of the game.
The Bison’s spirit-of-the-game winner was Daniel Moss.
