BASINGSTOKE RFC will look to continue their winning ways at home when Tring are the visitors to Down Grange on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

’Stoke have reeled off three straight wins on home turf and face a side who have suffered from travel sickness so far this campaign with four losses.

However, they did win last weekend, beating Thurrock 45-31 to record their third home victory of the season.

This moved them up to 10th in the National League Three London standings, three places behind Basingstoke.

Last Saturday’s victory at Barking maintained ’Stoke’s steady climb up the table, and their record of five wins in their last six games is as good as the top three, so the home side will start as favourites to win the contest.

Coach Will Croker said: “We want to keep our good run of form going. It was a not a pretty game against Barking, but we got the win.

“We will hope there is a big crowd to cheer the boys on as we have a good product and are playing well at home at the moment.”

’Stoke have not lost at Down Grange since the opening day of the season, when current league leaders Dorking were in town.

However, Croker is not taking anything for granted and added: “Tring have had some good wins at home and beat Thurrock last week. So we are not going to take them lightly.”

The home side will have to reshuffle their line-up as scrum-half Jamie Fish is ruled out with a broken nose and concussion picked up in the win against Barking, while Gavin Dampies is away at the Dubai Sevens and Martin Wassell is available.

The scrum-half position is likely to be filled by either Guy Wilkinson or Ben Hawkin, while Ryan Wilkie is also back after missing the trip to Barking.

Croker said: “Jamie Fish has been a real rock for the team and is another one of our leaders.

“This would have been his last game before he goes to Australia, but he will be coming back.

“I am sure others will come in and do a good job for us as this has been the case all season.”
