BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald will be hoping the wind dies down so he can resume his final round at the second stage of European Tour Qualifying this morning.

High winds at Lumine Golf and Beach Club, in Tarragona, Spain, brought an early end to play in the final round yesterday.

Despite gusts of 50-60mph, Archibald was one-under-par for 10 holes when play was suspended.

After a break of three hours, the players were sent back out, but conditions remained hugely difficult and Archibald made bogeys at holes 11 and 12 before play was suspended for a second time.

No further golf was possible, leaving Archibald +1 for the round, -5 for the tournament, overnight.

The 29-year-old, from Worting, must finish in the top 18 to reach the final stage of qualifying next week. He began the fourth round in a share of 16th place, but it is unclear where he stands at the moment as the leaderboard has not been updated.

Speaking on Twitter last night, Archibald remained positive, saying: "Regardless of the disaster today has been... The fact is I have 6 holes to play tomorrow, hopefully in par or better to progress through!"

However, high winds remain a problem in Spain this morning. Play was due to resume at 9am (8am GMT) but the start has been moved back to 11am (10am GMT) in the hope that conditions will improve.
