BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald claimed his best result of the season so far by finishing in a tie for second at the Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open today.
The 29-year-old ended the MENA Tour tournament, played at Saadiyat Golf Club, on five-under-par, just one shot behind the winner, Stephen Dodd of Wales.
Archibald was in contention from the start, a bogey-free round of 69 (-3) leaving him one shot off the lead at the end of the first day.
He maintained his high position with a level-par round of 72 on day two, meaning he was fourth, three shots off the lead, going into the final round.
The Worting man made a birdie four at the par-five second to begin today's round and while he bogeyed the third, further birdies at 15 and 16 meant a final round of 70 (-2).
He was the clubhouse leader with just one pair remaining but Dodd managed to make par at the last hole to claim victory, meaning Archibald had to settle for a share of second place alongside Craig Hinton.
Archibald is next in action at the second stage of European Tour Qualifying School, which gets under way in Spain next weekend.
