BASINGSTOKE Gymnastic Club continued to prove its excellence in team gymnastics at the recent British Teamgym Championships.

The Primary Girls Squad put in an outstanding performance to take the British title and the Junior and Senior Girls Squads took bronze and silver respectively.

The winning Primary team was made up of Emily Bomphrey, Lydia Doyle, Anna Eaton, Stephanie Garside, Daisy James, Destiny Lewis, Lindsey Pearson, Shauna Rosario, Candice Smith-Saddler, Catherine Stedman, Skye White, and Emma Wincott.

Competing at Fenton Manor Leisure Complex in Stoke-on-Trent, the Basingstoke Primary girls team were in a competitive category, with many of the team competing for the first time at national level.

However, their excellent execution and confidence across the three pieces of tumble, trampet and floor saw the team take the gold medal with a score of 42.30, which was over a mark more than the second-placed team.

To add to their achievements, they also obtained the highest score of the day on the floor.

In the Junior Girls category, the newly-formed Basingstoke team were up against some very strong competition.

However, they put in an outstanding, near faultless performance on all three pieces and after a nervous wait, they were delighted to take the bronze medal with a score of 45.60.

Under difficult circumstances, the senior team showed fantastic team spirit and determination to take the silver medal with a score of 46.60 and managed to score their highest ever mark on the floor.

Claire Williams, the head of Basingstoke Teamgym said: “I am absolutely thrilled for all of the teams.

“This is the first time the Primary Girls have won the British title and it’s great to see all our teams achieving great results, continuing our success year-on-year.

“They girls have all worked incredibly hard in training and the British medals are testament to their hard work and commitment.”
