THE BASINGSTOKE Bison have added even more firepower for the coming season with the re-signing of fans’ favourite Andy Melachrino.

The 20-year-old Guildford-born forward proved a great asset to the team before injury cut short what was looking to be a very promising first year with the Herd last season.

He is probably best remembered for his brace of the goals in one of the Bison’s best home victories of the season, when they beat the Manchester Phoenix 5-2 at the beginning of December.

Talking about his latest addition to the Herd, Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard said: “He was certainly one of the players I wanted back. He is an impact player who makes things happen due to his speed and toughness.

“He is a young player who can only get better and someone you can slot on any line.”

Melachrino is also looking forward to being back with the Bison and said: “It was a frustrating year but I am fit now and just want to get back on the ice.

“There was a great bunch guys last year in the changing rooms and most are back this season.

“I think we have a really great team and will certainly be challenging from the off.”

A forward line combination that worked well last season was when Melachrino played alongside Joe Rand and Joe Miller.

Both have also re-signed so that could well be an option for Sheppard.

Melachrino would be happy to be part of such a line.

“They are a great pair of players and playing with them can only improve my game,” the Bison’s latest signing added.
