BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow has made his first new signing of the summer, bringing in left-back Adam Green from Dartford.

The 29-year-old played in both legs of the Kent side’s Blue Square Bet South play-off semi-final victory over Town last year and continued to be a regular in the Dartford side after they won promotion.

He joins Basingstoke despite being offered a new deal by the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit and the addition is a clear signal of intent from Bristow, who is determined to improve his squad after a disappointing campaign.

“It does show our intent,” the Town boss said. “We are looking for players who are proven at this level and even higher.

“Adam Green is a top class defender who we have tried to sign a couple of times. We spoke to him last year but he wanted to play in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

“He is a fantastic addition for us. He’s a left-back who likes to get forward but he is a really good defender. Dartford offered him a deal but he wanted a new challenge and I am delighted that we have got him.”

Green began his career at Fulham, playing 13 times for the west London club and enjoying loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth and Bristol City. He then moved into non-league, playing for Grays, Woking and Hayes and Yeading United before joining Dartford in 2011.

Town spent last season without a recognised left-back and it is hoped that securing Green’s signature will help to sure up the defence, which conceded 73 goals in 42 games last season.
