MAJOR plans have been unveiled to transform the Abbey Mill into a “stylish multi-layered space” incorporating a grill and wine room.

Chesil Rectory owners Mark and Eleanor Dodd announced their new venture ‘Inn The Park’ earlier this month.

The building in Winchester’s Abbey Gardens was previously River Cottage Kitchen, owned by celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, but in July last would it was revealed that it would not reopen due to “unprecedented challenges from Covid-19”.

Now the Chesil Rectory team have been carrying out work behind the scenes to refurbish the historic building.

On the ground floor a “fun, versatile family- friendly restaurant for breakfast, brunch and casual dining” is being created, which will be transformed in the evening into a grill serving meat, fish and local produce.

Upstairs will be a new bar and wine room featuring a restaurant and bottle shop.

A post on the Chesil Rectory’s Facebook page said: “There’ll not only be an incredible selection of wines but also the most delicious small plates menu featuring charcuterie, cheeses, homemade terrines, artisan bread and much more.

“There’ll be regular wine tasting nights and an exciting calendar of future events.

“We’re introducing luscious fabrics, pops of colour and vintage lighting throughout to bring some joy and happiness into the park.”
