BIN and recycling collection days in the Winchester district are to change during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

All weekly collections will be a later than normal during the two weeks from Friday, December 25, the city council has confirmed.

All bin collection will be moved between two and four days later around the festive period - this means that some homes will have to wait longer to have their rubbish collections.

The city council has said that there will be no collections from Christmas Day to December 29. Green waste collections will be suspended till January 11.

The following dates are normal collection day for refuse, recycling or glass collection, followed by revised collection day:

  • December 25 - moves to December 29
  • December 28 - moves to December 30
  • December 29 - moves to December 31
  • December 30 - moves to January 2
  • December 31 - moves to January 4
  • January 1 - moves to January 5
  • January 4 - moves to January 6
  • January 5 - moves to January 7
  • January 6 - moves to January 8
  • January 7 - moves to January 9
  • January 8 - moves to January 11
  • January 11 - moves to January 12
  • January 12 - moves to January 13
  • January 13 - moves to January 14
  • January 14 - moves to January 15
  • January 15 - moves to January 16.

The council are also offering to collect real Christmas trees for recycling from the week commencing January 11. Residents can put them out with garden waste collections. Decorations must be removed, and the tree trimmed down if over 5ft.

Gift wrap or foil roasting trays cannot be recycled but non-glittery and non-foiled Christmas crackers can be.
