WE'VE rounded up some of this week's most read stories, just in case you may have missed them.

1. A FLOOD alert was put in place in Winchester as the River Itchen begins to overspill.

It was reported on Monday that acres of Hampshire land is at risk of groundwater flooding following Storms Ciara and Dennis.

The Environment Agency issued the alert that spans the river in the city but said that property damage is not expected.

2. AN INQUEST opening heard that the director of a Pavilion Clothing was crushed to death by a tree during Storm Ciara.

Kenneth Ronald Macartney, aged 58 and of Popham Court Road died when driving his Mercedes towards Micheldever on February 9.

This week his family paid tribute to him, saying: "He was passionate about his family, dogs, football and chocolate and he will be sorely missed by everybody that knew and loved him.”

3. BURGLARS stole a £35,000 top-of-the-range motorbike in a break-in which saw them cut a hole in a brick wall to avoid cameras.

The gang broke into Moto Rapido Ducati, in Winnall Valley Road, Winchester, at about 10pm on Wednesday.

During the brazen attack they took a Ducati V4 which had been specially made for a customer to collect next month.

4. IT HAS been more than 25 frustrating years since the Central Winchester Regeneration project first came about – and now the city council has unveiled its latest direction.

At an open forum on Monday, dozens of residents were told that the scheme, once called Silver Hill, would have a ‘final concept’ plan in place by autumn 2020, and that archaeological work would start before the end of the year.

5. WORK has begun to revitalise an historic public space dating back to the 15th century. 

St Maurice’s Covert, which is located between the city’s high street and Market Lane, will receive a makeover to enhance the route between the high street and Winchester Cathedral.

Phase one of the improvement works started this week and will last for seven weeks.
