During this year, plenty of us have changed how we lived our lives, whether that’s staying indoors, doing more exercise, or taking up a new skill.

Now, a collaboration between Test Valley Borough Council and the Test Valley Arts Foundation is encouraging members of the public to capture their 2020 as part of a project to produce a tapestry of life for the year.

The virtual tapestry, consisting of short video clips, will then be put online as a record of the events of this tumultuous year in the borough.

One of those leading the project is Peter Thompson. He told the Advertiser that the project has had to change since its inception.

He said: “Originally, myself and Anna, the artist leading the project, planned to run a series of workshops in the Autumn, but obviously we haven’t been able to do that because of Covid.”

Instead, they’ve been starting to solicit submissions online, making more use of social media than was initially intended. They says that they’re hoping to build a community online, with as many different people as possible.

“The important thing is to get a good spread,” said Peter. “We want to get a geographical spread and we want to get submissions from all sorts of people from all sorts of walks of life. That’s the key thing really.”

They’re looking forward to seeing all kinds of topics shown in these videos, from walks people like to take to the places that bring comfort.

“It could be anything,” he said. “One chap, who goes to a local lake near where he lives, made a little two minute video of the birds and the sun dawning on this lake. Anything like that is welcome.”

He says “there’s no need for people to go and buy equipment,” with a smartphone being good enough to make a video for the project.
