With house prices continuing to rise despite the pandemic, it may feel like all the money you’ll need to save will end up burning a hole in your pocket.

In Amport, however, there’s a unique opportunity to get onto the housing market with some hot property.

Two fire damaged bungalows are going up for sale, and could be yours to buy.

Westview and Middlebank, located on Sarson Lane, were both destroyed in a “pretty catastrophic fire” last year, which left only their chimney stacks remaining.

Each sit on a quarter acre of land, with Middlebank being the slightly larger. Auctioneers Clive Emson, which will be selling the bungalows individually, described the lots as having “fantastic potential for building.”

Despite being almost completely derelict, the bungalows are estimated to sell for between £240,000 and £260,000, which is higher than the average UK house price of £237,693.

Rob Marchant, Clive Emson’s Hampshire auctioneer, said: “Originally believed to have been built in the 1920s, these largely timber-built bungalow were sadly destroyed by fire in May 2019.

“It is considered that repair/refurbishment is unlikely to be economical or desirable and so accordingly the two sites are likely to be best suited to re-development, subject to all the necessary consents being obtainable.”

The bungalows were destroyed on May 7 2019 when fire engulfed both buildings, as well as inflicting heat damage on a nearby property and destroying an agricultural vehicle.

Fire crews from Andover, Sutton Scotney and Alresford tackled the blaze for over two hours, while power to the area was cut off for a “short amount of time for safety”.

Both properties are currently listed on an online auction, which close on Wednesday, November 4.

In addition to the purchase price, the owner of the new bungalows will also have to pay the auctioneers around £1,200 in administration fees, should they sell for the guide price, while other costs such as Stamp Duty may also be payable.
