An inspirational Andover mum is turning the tragic passing of her son into a positive by raising thousands for charity.

Whilst on holiday in August Hollie Davis suffered a tragedy that no mother should have to face when she lost her 20 week old son Kitt.

Baby Kitt passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), which is described as the sudden and unexplained death of a baby younger than one year old.

She is now planning on running 20 km a day for 10 days to raise money for The Lullaby Trust to help fund vital research into the unknown cause of SIDS and help other mothers, fathers and grandparents in similar situations to hers.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Hollie said: “Kitt was cremated on September 7, his ashes will be planted into a local burial ground and a sapling tree placed with him.

“Kitt , although just 20 weeks, was so large in life an Oak tree felt fitting for his huge size and huge personality, here myself and his family will be able to continue to see him grow and flourish just as he was supposed to in life.”

“I will be running 20 km a day as Kitt was 20 weeks old, I will run to his burial sites and back home and do this for 10 days to reach a total of 200 km because around 200 families are torn apart each year in the UK due to SIDS.”

The run is helping the serving army medic and a physical training instructor to continue forward with her life whilst coping with the ‘overwhelming and indescribable’ pain she feels.

Basingstoke Gazette:

“I’m aware that through Covid lots of charities are struggling to provide support to people.

"If through my funding they can just how one more person through what I went through it would be worth it.”

The Lullaby Trust set Hollie, and both sets of Kitts grandparents up with a befriender who has expierence baby loss themselves and can provide support and comfort.

Holly said talking makes her grief feel normal : “My befriender lost her son 33 years ago and talking to her has made me realise that I will go on, it’s not the end of my life just because it’s the end of my sons."

The fundraising page has already raised almost four thousand pounds of the five thousand pound target.

Holly will be starting the run on Thursday, September 17.
