Test Valley Cops have criticised speeding drivers after being forced to divert resources away from other areas of policing during the coronavirus outbreak.

A message posted by the police force started by saying that in general, people were doing well by staying home, which has resulted in fewer vehicles on the roads.

But those who are going out it seems aren't abiding by the rules.

"It doesn’t mean however that it is safe to put your foot down," the police message read.

"There are many pedestrians and cyclists out taking exercise, including young families.

"We’d hoped not to have to add speed checks to the list of tasks we need to perform during the emergency.

"Today however I’ve had to task PC Pugh & PC Allen to do just that."

The message added that they have also received feedback from the community which indicated that residents also share concerns about speeding drivers.

"If you do speed through one of our villages and fail to spot PC Pugh, in his bright high-viz jacket, next to a big bright police car, then not only are you going too fast, you are also not observing what is going on around you," they added.

"Don’t be that person. When performing speed checks officers do not ‘hide’.

"Nor do speed checks ‘raise revenue’ (PC Allen is stood next to a Ford after all, not a Bugatti).

"They definitely do have other things they need to be doing.

"They’re out there trying to keep us all safe. If you see them please say hello."
