THE Andover Alliance is under investigation from the body that regulates party and election finances, the Advertiser can reveal.

The Electoral Commission confirmed the news today (Tuesday) but said they were unable to comment further as the situation is ongoing.

It is believed the investigation relates to the submission of financial documents relating to loans and donations received by the party.

Emails shared with the Advertiser show correspondence from a senior investigator at the Electoral Commission addressed to party chiefs.

The email, dated from earlier this month, notes that “the Quarter 2 2019 donations and loans returns remain outstanding” and requests a response from the party – otherwise the Electoral Commission says it will conclude its investigation on the basis of the information it already has.

Quarter 2 donations and loans returns cover the period from April to June, last year, and should have been returned by July 30.

Richard Rowles, chairman of the Andover Alliance, has been contacted for a comment.
