A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug after her car was stopped and searched in Amesbury.

At around 10.30pm on Saturday, January 18, officers noticed a car driving along London Road, Amesbury with just one headlight working.

The vehicle's details were checked, and it was found to be without a valid MOT.

The car was stopped and one of the officers, after approaching the car, suspected that the female driver was under the influence of drugs.

A drug's wipe was carried out at the roadside which came back as positive for cannabis and cocaine.

The vehicle was then searched and several packets of white powder were found inside. More packets of white powder were later found after a search of her home address in nearby Coombe Bissett.

A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.

She has been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

Sgt James Osment said: "This was a good find where our officers going about their regular work of stopping a car without an MOT discovered the driver was under the influence of drugs and a number of suspicious packages not only in her vehicle but also at her address.

"We take the issue of illegal drug use in Wiltshire very seriously.

"If you risk being in possession of illegal drugs in our county be prepared to be caught and face the possibility of a custodial sentence."
