A TWO-VEHICLE collision has left a stretch of dual carriageway near Andover closed.

The A34 southbound, between the A303 junction at Bullington Cross and the A272 junction at Worthy Down, has been closed after what Highways England says is a “serious” crash involving two vehicles.

The collision is believed to have involved a car and a lorry.

Police are said to be at the scene with the road expected to be closed through the night.

Witnesses have also reported seeing ambulances and a number of fire engines in attendance.

A diversion is in place, with motorists advised to follow the black diamond symbol.

This will take them along the A303 eastbound and onto the M3 northbound. Drivers will then exit at junction 7, circulate the roundabout and return to the M3 southbound all the way to Winnall roundabout.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the A34 has been closed following the crash.

A spokesman said: "We currently have a road closure in place on the A34 following a collision this evening.

"The southbound carriageway is closed at the Bullington crossroads, and this is likely to remain in place for some time.

"If you are intending to use this stretch of road overnight, please seek an alternative route.

"Thank you for your patience, and we will update you further when the situation changes."
