YOUNG fans of history were given the opportunity to enjoy a festival dedicated to the subject on Saturday.

Strange Old Things, The Mobile Museum is brought top museums from Wiltshire and beyond together to fill up Tidworth Leisure Centre on November 2, with families attending to revel in an afternoon of fun and facts.

The event welcomed a host of popular museums from across the south including Salisbury Museum, The Army Flying Museum and The Iron Age Museum in Andover, Boscombe Aviation Collection, Devizes Museum, and The Rifles Berkshire & Wiltshire Museum, with volunteers from the attractions were on-hand to inform visitors about the relics and the era in history they hailed from.

Youngsters also got the chance to get up close with fossil displays - handling artifacts from years gone by - dress up in clothes from yesteryear, as well as enjoy crafts, music, stories, archaeology, weapon displays, a steam engine, and a climbing wall.

And for the grown ups there was a 1940s tea room for a chance to relax with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

The organisation worked with Wiltshire Council and the Army Welfare Service to put on the festival offered a variety of collections which children were able to handle.
