SHE may be 90 but Mary Dollin has proved you are never too old to make a difference as a volunteer.

The incredible pensioner's dedicated hospital charity work has now been recognised with a second long service award.

Mrs Dollin had already received a medal from the WRVS in 1995 for 15 years of voluntary service and she has now been presented with a clasp for the medal for the additional 12 years she has worked.

Mrs Dollin, of Oakley Lane, Oakley, has volunteered in the flower shop at Basingstoke hospital since 1992, having previously worked for the WRVS at Chute House.

The presentation was made by Irena Wasylowsky, the WRVS area manager for the south east.

Mrs Dollin said: "I normally work at least twice a week at the shop. In the past, I also worked for the WRVS emergency services team that provides help to victims of disasters such as floods and rail disasters, and meals on wheels. I really enjoy working here and get to meet lots of interesting people."

Mrs Dollin has always had a close involvement with Basingstoke hospital. She was a staff nurse there for 18 years and also worked as a bank nurse.

Carol Stevens, the WRVS staff co-ordinator at Basingstoke hospital, said: "Mary is invaluable to us. If we call her, she'll always come in at the drop of a hat."

She added: "Having a volunteer service in the hospital is vital and we rely on people giving a little of their time.

"We are currently looking for volunteers to work three-hour shifts. They do not have to come every week, even once a month is a great help."
