A FAMILY had a shock awaking after being woken up by lightning which struck a car.

Chloe Farrington, of Heol Llewelyn in Coedpoeth, said she was startled at about 5am from the storm.

She told the Leader: "I was sort of in a doze as I was woken by the storm, but still half asleep, but then all of a sudden I heard this massive bang. It sounded like a bomb going off.

"My partner jumped out of bed and my baby started screaming and was clinging on to me."

The lightning bolt had hit a nearby car, which luckily had not caught fire and no emergency services were needed.

Chloe said they did not see anything unusual until they looked at their security footage.

She added: "We looked out of the window and didn't see anything until after when we watched the CCTV back and a neighbours car was hit.

"It all happened so quickly and none of us went back to sleep.

"There was no fire or anything but this morning the owner couldn't get into the car and one light was on, so we told them what happened and showed the CCTV.

"It's mad. We were gobsmacked.

"A house was hit by lightening in Wrexham a few weeks ago and I just kept thinking that it could have hit our house.

Basingstoke Gazette:

"You don't want anyone to get hurt but because we have a young child in our house, that's our main concern. I think we were so lucky.

"I've never seen anything like it before. I've seen lightning, but never this close. It was pretty scary and my biggest worry was that it could have hit us or hurt someone."
